Shopping for those near and dear to us is often a daunting task. After all, you can only buy so many watches, colognes, sweaters, and body washes to give as gifts. The key to successfully selecting a gift is all about knowing what the recipient likes. Too many times people buy gifts based on what they like, and not what the person wants. Take a hint and observe, sometimes the signs are there. If all else fails, select one of these disappointment-proof options!
1. Magazine subscriptions. For people who enjoy reading magazines, a gift subscription is ideal. You simply fill out the subscription card, put your name as the sender, pay the invoice and that's it. A no-fuss gift solution even for the pickiest person on your list. There has to be something they enjoy reading about!
2. Airline gift cards. Unless they are scared of flying, most people can appreciate a gift card they can used toward airline tickets. With all of the fees and surcharges airlines charge nowadays, a gift card can make all the difference.
3. Charitable donations. For the good Samaritan on your list, consider making a donation to their favorite charity on their behalf. Not only will you make them happy, your donation will go towards something good and useful, and it's a gift that keeps on giving.
4. A journal. A journal may seem like a copout gift, but a lot of people like to write in journals. Some may even use it to write that novel they've been procrastinating on. Select a journal to match their personality and you can't go wrong.
5. An engraved or personalized gift. Who doesn't love to see their name or initials on something? Buy a gift you can personalize and it'll mean twice as much to the recipient. Monogrammed towels, a personalized jewelry box, or money clip are just a few gifts you can personalize.
6. A CD or Movie. Buy a gift from their favorite artist or get their favorite movie on DVD and watch their face light up. I'm a huge music fan, so I would enjoy receiving a CD, and the James Bond 007 series wouldn't hurt either...Just kidding.
7. Candles. Candles are the perfect gift. They can light up a room and add a nice touch to almost any environment. Choose nice scents that are fragrant enough to set a mood and not too overpowering.
8. A gift card. Gift cards are quite popular and a reasonable solution if you simply can't decide what to get some one. American Express and Visa gift cards are extremely popular and you can use them just about anywhere.
9. A great book. Books are forever, and they are great for inspiration, fun, or entertainment. They are perfect for kids or adults and there's hundreds to choose from!
10. Tickets to a special event. If your loved one has been dying to go to a special concert or event, surprise them with tickets. Often times people don't take time out to enjoy life, this small gesture will be worth their weight in gold!
